As you'd expect, children are at the very heart of everything we do at William Rhodes. We know that great relationships are the bedrock of successful teaching and learning and do all that we can to ensure our classrooms are happy, vibrant places where children feel safe and secure and ready to learn.
We encourage children to try their very best at all times and teach them that through hard work and perseverance, they will succeed. We plan exciting learning opportunities each and every day so that children are always enthusiastic and engaged.
We know that learning doesn't just happen in the classroom and that often the most memorable experiences for children are those where they've experienced something new, or been out of their comfort zone. This is why we consider our visits to be so important. This year the children have visited Lea Green for a residential, Carsington Water for kayaking and canoeing, Fritchley Woods for muddy adventures, Canon Hall Farm and Chatsworth Farm Yard to learn about animals and their habitats and the Moorlands Discovery Centre hunting for Boggarts. The lower juniors challenged themselves by staying the night in the school hall, followed by an amazing adventure day which included archery, climbing and go-karting.
We recognise that there are many challenges in our community and do all that we can to support our children and their families. We offer a free breakfast club and numerous free after-school clubs including multi-sports for infants and juniors, cookery, art & crafts, choir, fun fitness, computing and a weekly homework club. Our children & families support worker offers parenting and family learning as well as nurture groups to support our most vulnerable children. Add to this our offer of art therapy, a very special individualised therapeutic programme, and you can see we care deeply about all our children, their families and our very special community.
